The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to be the 15th edition of the Asian Cup cricket tournament, with matches to be played as Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) during September 2023 in Sri Lanka.

2023 Asia Cup will begin on Saturday, September 2 and ends on
Sunday, September 17.

Pakistan was scheduled to host the tournament after retaining the rights to host the 2023 edition.

However, in October 2021, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced that Sri Lanka would host the tournament in 2023, with Pakistan hosting the 2023 edition. India are the defending champions.

The upcoming Asia Cup 2023 cricket tournament is the 15th edition of the competition. The Asia Cup is a limited-overs cricket competition that was first held by the Asian Cricket Council in 1984. Before 2016, it was purely an ODI tournament. However, thereafter, it was played every two years alternately as an ODI or T20I competition.

India has been the most successful team by winning seven titles (one T20I and six ODIs). While Sri Lanka has won five titles, Pakistan has won two.

Current Updates for Asia Cup 2023

•   The 16th edition of the ACC Asia Cup will be played in 2023 as an ODI tournament.
• The Asia Cup 2023 cricket tournament will be co-hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan in August-September 2023. This will be the first edition of the competition to be co-hosted.
• The competition will have six teams. Nepal will join five full members of the ICC: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
• In total there will be 13 Asia Cup matches. While Pakistan will host four matches, Sri Lanka will host the remaining nine.
• The Cricket India Asia Cup record has been the best with seven tournament wins. Having won the competition six times, Sri Lanka has had the second best record in the Asia Cup cricket competition.
• Associate member Nepal has qualified to play in the Asian Cup for the first time by winning the 2023 ACC Men’s Premier Cup.
• The next ACC Asia Cup 2024 emerging team tournament will be held in November-December 2024. The competition will feature Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, and three qualifiers from the ACC Men’s Premier Cup 2024.

Format of Asia Cup 2023

The six teams in the 2023 Asia Cup will be divided into two round-robin groups of three teams each. Pakistan, India and Nepal will be placed in group A. Group B will consist of Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The top two teams in each group will advance to the Super 4, another round-robin league. The two best teams in the Super 4 will meet in the final of the 2023 Asia Cup.

Asia Cup 2023 groups : Who will win the Cup?

We expect Pakistan and India to qualify for Super 4 from group A. Likewise, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are the favorites to overcome group B.

Super 4 is harder to predict. We expect India to finish in the top two. The other team in the final will probably be Pakistan or Sri Lanka. On paper, Pakistan is the stronger side. However, host Sri Lanka will benefit from being familiar with local conditions. Furthermore, they are likely to make wickets that suit their players and at the same time nullify Pakistan’s pacers.

Consequently, we predict that India and Sri Lanka will meet in the final. India has registered a 4-3 h2h lead over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final. We hope the trend remains unchanged.
