India Playing XI 2nd T20 Against West Indies, Jaiswal, Shubman to get key spot

India Playing XI 2nd T20 Against West Indies

India Playing XI 2nd T20: From smashing hit, Shubman Gill shares have taken a sudden plunge on the Caribbean tour. The youngster has only scored over 50 for India in his last 10 innings. But Rahul Dravid and Hardik Pandya are unfazed. With the Asia Cup 2023 just around the corner, the Indian cricket team is relying on Shubman Gill to fire in the T20. Therefore, Yashasvi Jaiswal will continue to play the waiting game on the bench for at least the first three T20s. IND vs WI 2nd T20 is at Providence Stadium, Guyana on Sunday.

Except for Tilak Varma, India’s sensational IPL did not have a great outing in the 1st T20. Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill and Sanju Samson all failed. Captain Hardik Pandya was also not at his best.

But as Rahul Dravid and Hardik Pandya don’t like to play the combination much, Shubman Gill will get another chance.

But as it is, Prince Shubman Gill is a shadow of the IPL form of him. He had a hard time in the WTC final. He stuttered in the IND vs WI test series. He was only able to score over 50 in three ODIs.

In fact, on the West Indies tour, he has three single-digit scores.

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill since IPL 2023

  • 1st T20: 3
  • 3rd ODI: 85
  • 2nd ODI: 34
  • 1st ODI: 7
  • 2nd Test: 10 & 29*
  • 1st Test: 6
  • WTC Final: 13 & 18

The sudden drop in form is worrying considering that India will play in the Asia Cup 2023 and ICC World Cup 2023 to follow. And his numbers look more out of place as he snapped 890 runs in 17 games. He managed three centuries and four scores over 50 in those matches.

But considering the series is more of a proving ground than winning, he’ll fly under the radar.

IND vs WI 2nd T20: What to expect?

  • With Shubman Gill retaining his place, Yashasvi Jaiswal will continue in the dugout.
  • Ishan Kishan has been excellent so far on tour. Although he did not shine in the first T20, the team management will give him another chance before resting him before the 2023 Asian Cup.
  • The only player who nailed his debut was Tilak Varma. He made two terrific catches, smashed 22 ball 39s to seal his authority.
  • For now, Tilak Varma has sealed the No. 4 spot in the series with Vice-Captain Suryakumar Yadav at No. 3.
  • Hardik Pandya will continue at number 5 with Sanju Samson taking the finisher spot.
  • Although Samson failed in the 1st T20, he will have another chance. He is still in the calculation for a place in the Asian Cup and needs some time in between.
  • In the bowling department, two Indian leg spinners were excellent, busting a combined three wickets. Both Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal will retain their posts.
  • There’s also Axar Patel, who didn’t do much. But in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja, he is a practical all-rounder and he will continue.

In the bowling, Arshdeep Singh picked up his stride at 2/31. Mukesh Kumar had a tepid debut with no land to his name. However, as the team management has shown great confidence in him, he will get another chance before either Avesh Khan or Umran Malik come to the team.
