Multan Sultans vs Peshawar Zalmi in the final of the PSL 2021 on Thursday 24 June at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Multan Sultans became the first team to reach the final of PSL 2021 when they defeated Islamabad United by 31 runs in Qualifying. Peshawar Zalmi defeated Karachi Kings in Eliminator 1 by five wickets and Islamabad United in Eliminator 2 by eight wickets to advance to the title match.
Multan Sultans, who finished with five wins and the same number of losses in the league stage, ended Islamabad United’s five-match unbeaten streak at PSL 2021 by beating them in Qualifier. Batting first, the Sultans posted a competitive 180 for 5 on the back of Shan Maqsood’s 59 and Johnson Charles and Khushdil Shah’s 40 swashbuckling.
Tanvir’s first wicket, combined with a runaway, reduced Islamabad United to 14 from 3, paving the way for the Multan Sultans to seal their place in the 2021 PSL final.
After beating Karachi Kings in Eliminator 1, Peshawar Zalmi defeated Islamabad United in Eliminator 2. Bowling first, Peshawar Zalmi was lucky to get Khawaja (1) early as he ran out of a deflection at the non-forward end after backing down. Bowlers never let Islamabad United establish itself after that. Experienced Mohammad Irfan strangled them at 1 for 21, and it took a 16-ball whirlwind 45 from Hasan Ali to push Islamabad United to 174.
It was a competitive total. However, fit Hazratullah Zazai played a magnificent 66-on-44 shot to put Peshawar Zalmi on course for a victory. Jonathan Wells (55 not out of 43) and Shoaib Malik (32 not out of 10) then hit the Islamabad United bowling alley when Peshawar Zalmi booked their well deserved spot in the final.
