“There is a lack of confidence” – Wasim Jaffer on Virat Kohli Batting form

Virat Kohli Batting Form in Test

Former Indian opener and cricket expert Wasim Jaffer has dissected Virat Kohli’s lean patch after another unfortunate dismissal against Sri Lanka in the Pink Ball Test in Bengaluru.

Kohli looked good for his 23, but he took an absolutely unplayable delivery that didn’t bounce much and hit him in front of his stumps. Wasim Jaffer says there is nothing wrong with the 33-year-old’s technique and it’s just a matter of him gaining some confidence.

Speaking with ESPNCricinfo on Sunday, here’s what Jaffer had to say about Virat Kohli’s form:

“There’s none of that (about whether there are flaws in Kohli’s technique). He doesn’t have enough runs under his belt and there’s a lack of confidence. The kind of runs we expect from Kohli is not seen. that hundred and finds a way, I’m pretty sure we’ll get to see old Virat Kohli.”

Shreyas Iyer played a sensational stroke of 92 in a range turner in Bengaluru. Flapping magnificently with his tail, the 27-year-old attacked the Sri Lankan spinners and didn’t let the conditions dictate.

While Wasim Jaffer agreed that it was a great performance from Iyer, he rated many of Rishabh Pant’s other punches higher than the 27-year-old’s.

This is what he had to say about it:

“I don’t think so (on Shreyas Iyer’s punch being the best by an Indian in recent times). There are a lot of Rishabh Pant’s punches that have been magnificent. But definitely if you look at the context of this Test Match and the direction it’s going So it’s a big hit.”

India is in complete control of the pink ball test as the visitors are reeling at 86/6. Sri Lanka will need to bat very well if they are to take the game beyond Day 3.
