World Cup 2023 schedule may delay more, Kolkata police denies security for PAK vs ENG

Kolkata police denies security for PAK vs ENG

World Cup 2023 schedule will be pushed back further. At the 11th hour, the Cricket Association Bengal (CAB) requested that the PAK vs ENG match be rescheduled. The match was initially scheduled to be played on 12 November, but a request was made citing inadequate security due to the Diwali celebrations.

Kali Puja is celebrated with great pomp in Kolkata and the festival is scheduled for November 12, the same day as the PAK vs ENG match. Therefore, the Kolkata police will have fewer resources to call upon to provide security coverage for the World Cup match.

The World Cup calendar is already at a crossroads. The IND vs PAK match in Ahmedabad was moved up one day from October 15 due to Navratri celebrations. The PAK vs ENG match will be the third match for the Pakistan cricket team to be changed from its original schedule. Pakistan’s match against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad has been moved from 12 to 10 October.

The World Cup schedule has already been pushed back compared to previous editions. Although the ECB and CA gave advance notice, the BCCI only had 3 months left until the opening of the tournament. Now, there will be more changes to the schedule.
